We recommend an annual well-woman exam in Baltimore for every woman. Well-woman exams have a physical and pelvic exam, breast exam, and a Pap smear (based on your age and history). We discuss your past medical history, including your surgical, gynecological, and obstetrical history. We also offer counseling on contraception and infertility.
What’s the Well Woman Exam?
We are glad you asked! A well-woman exam is a more modern term for a woman’s suggested annual visit to a gynecologist. Well-woman exams involve a physical and pelvic exam, a Pap smear, and contraception counseling. We also discuss your gynecological history so we can understand the whole picture.

Consultation
During a consultation with Dr. Oliver, you can talk about your gynecological medical history and she will explore questions that are relevant to you and your history.

The Exam
We do a physical exam of the internal and external genitalia, pelvic organs, abdomen, and breasts. We test for cancer with a Pap smear, where we collect cells to test for abnormalities.

The Results
The results from your Pap test will be available within 10 days after your appointment. If you do not hear from us in this time frame, your test is likely normal.

Woman exams can take different amounts of time, with annual checkups being shorter than visits prompted by symptoms. In general, well-woman exams last between 30 minutes to an hour, providing enough time to learn all about your gynecological history. This history includes information about when your menses began or ended, how many children you’ve had, or if you are having problems getting pregnant. Dr. Oliver has the full-scale knowledge of women’s health to put together a treatment to fit your needs and the demeanor to set you at ease.
You may need to wait up to 10 days for a Pap smear and culture results. If you don’t receive a call from the physician within 10 days, your test results are likely normal. The doctor will contact you if any test results need further review.
To prepare for a well-woman exam in Baltimore, write down any questions you have for the doctor before the day of the appointment so you don’t forget them. Make sure to bring your insurance card with you and a form of payment. On our “Patient Hub” page, you will find a set of forms to fill out before your appointment. We ask you to fill this out ahead of time to save yourself time writing them while sitting in the waiting room.
